While we all know water is essential, let’s face it – alcoholic beverages aren’t exactly hydrating. People sip them for all sorts of reasons, like chilling out or hanging with friends.

We usually expect alcoholic drinks to taste good, but that’s not always the case. Lately, there’s been quite the chat about which drinks folks secretly find unappealing.

From baby mice wine to scorpion vodka, we’re tossing it all into the mix. So, buckle up for a ride through taste revelations!

1. Baby Mice Wine

Taking the top spot is this grim concoction where newborn mouse pups, less than three days old, are drowned and left to soak for an entire year. It is a traditional Chinese “health tonic” that reportedly has a flavor reminiscent of raw gasoline. It’s quite a peculiar drink!

2. Seagull Wine

This is definitely one of the weirdest and most repugnant alcoholic beverages out there, crafted and imbibed by the Inuit. With scant resources at their disposal, these tribes resort to an unconventional method: stuffing a dead seagull into a bottle of water and allowing it to ferment under the sun.

3. Magical Penis Wine

In Shanghai, they produce rice wine infused with deer, Cantonese dog, and seal genitals. It is also known as Three Penis Liquor. An aphrodisiac? Not really. Just the thought of drinking it can kill your sex drive.

4. Rượu Thuốc

In Vietnam, they’ve got a distilled liquor made with medicinal herbs and whole animals: there’s something to suit every taste, you just have to pick. Are you more into termites, seahorses, or cobras?

5. Giant Centipede Whiskey

In Thailand, they make a whiskey infused with centipedes, said to relieve muscle pain and backaches. The centipedes are treated to remove their toxins before infusion. This is far worse than the mezcal worm.

6. Kumis

In Mongolia, they milk mares and let the milk ferment for a few hours. The outcome? A potent dose of acidity that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

7. Lizard Wine

Lizard Wine is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in China. It’s made by adding ginseng and gecko lizards to fermented rice wine. After 12 months, the mixture is strained to obtain a green liquor.

8. Gilpin Family Whiskey

American artist James Gilpin got creative by making whiskey from the urine of elderly diabetics. He reasoned that since diabetic urine contains high sugar levels, it could ferment it into whiskey. However, this project is purely artistic, and the Gilpin Family Whiskey isn’t actually for sale. Frankly, we doubt there’d be much of a market for it anyway.

9. Chicha

Chicha is a fermented alcoholic beverage popular in Central and South America. Locals craft it from a variety of ingredients like fruits or starchy vegetables such as bananas or corn. What makes chicha stand out is its traditional method: the ingredients are chewed and then spat into water, where saliva aids in breaking down sugars and speeding up fermentation. While commercial chicha often skips this step, homemade versions may still embrace it for authenticity.

10. Scorpion Vodka

In England, there’s a type of vodka where a venom-free scorpion is soaked in alcohol and then nibbled on as a tasty aphrodisiac snack alongside the drink.
